Baby born at ETMC hits a perfect ‘12’

JACKSONVILLE — One lucky little miss from Jacksonville hit a winning combination of numbers with her arrival into the world at 12:12  p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 (12:12 on 12/12/12).

The infant, whose name and photo her family declined to publicize, was born at ETMC hospital in Jacksonville via C-section. Local OB/Gyn Dr. Charles Burke was the delivering physician.

According to Burke's office manager Judy Martin, the baby – the third child born to her parents – weighed 7.5 pounds and “is doing beautifully” despite being delivered several days early because she was in a precarious position in her mother's womb.

“She was a breech baby, which is why her mother was scheduled for delivery,” Martin said. “But she's doing beautifully, beautifully.”

No other babies were due by Dr. Burke Dec. 12 this year, although Martin said the practice delivered four babies last year on Nov. 11, 2011, “but none of them were born on the hour, just one born at 10:59.”

Dr. Burke delivered two babies on Oct. 10, 2010, and in 2009, a baby born on Sept. 9.

“It's kind of funny, thinking about it, but Dr. Burke is a big numbers guy – he was married on 8-08-88,” she laughed. “He was hoping (for this baby) on 12-12 and it wouldn't have happened if she hadn't been breech and had to be delivered ... this is the only one who landed 12's on everything.”
