Incumbents file for city council slots

JACKSONVILLE — Two incumbent city council members filed for reelection this week.

Betty Thompson, Jacksonville city secretary, confirmed that District 1 Councilman Hubert Robinson and District 3 Councilman Bill McDonald filed for the election.

McDonald was not immediately available for comment Friday afternoon and will be approached for his interview next week.

But Robinson, reached by phone at work Friday, said he hopes to continue a positive trend toward working with citizens and the school district to accomplish council goals.

"It's always been my pleasure to serve the city of Jacksonville," he said. "I was born and raised here and my kids went to school here and we just love the city."

The District 1 incumbent said it has been a joy to watch the city grow and to continually work for the embitterment of it.

"I really think we can continue to do some good things for the school, get some really excellent things done and keep the citizens involved," he said. "We're truly the best city in East Texas and I think we can continue being that. I thank God for the opportunity to serve in Jacksonville."

Interested candidates file applications through March 1, with paperwork available at district administration offices.

Early voting is from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 29 through May 7. On the May 11 election day, polling hours are from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
