JACKSONVILLE —
Registration for the Oct. 19-20 Smoking for H.O.P.E. barbecue competition continues through Friday, said Director Ben Briley of the Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department.
A $65 entree fee rises to $75 at the gate, he said. Printable entry forms and rules can be downloaded from the city's website, jacksonvilletx.org. Sign-up deadline is noon Friday.
“We do still have room for more competitors,” Briley said.
A separate fee of $15 per night per camping site also will be charged.
Last year, eight teams competed in the event, which offers competition in categories of brisket, chicken and ribs. There is also judging for beans, chili and dessert categories.
Briley said sponsorships are still available at $100 each.
The event, started last year, benefits the H.O.P.E. Center, which serves as a clearing house for churches and charitable agencies in Cherokee County.
