Toddler burned in weekend incident

JACKSONVILLE — The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department confirmed Tuesday that a 3-year-old male was badly burned in an incident Sunday evening.

Detective Jonathan Hughes of the sheriff's department was able to confirm the incident happened at a residence on County Road 4126.  The boy was transported to a local hospital by his family and was then transferred to a Dallas hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

"It's an open and ongoing investigation to see if there was a criminal act of if it was indeed an accident," Hughes said.
