Rotary donates to Back Pack Project

JACKSONVILLE —

The Rotary Club of Jacksonville donated $2,000.00 to the HOPE Back Pack Project.

Proceeds from the Annual Pancake Supper and a matching grant from Rotary International will provide for additional children to be added to the program.

Currently, 189 children in the Jacksonville and New Summerfield Independent School Districts receive back packs filled with food items during week-ends.

Some school counselors have a waiting list of children who need to receive back packs and the Rotary Club donation will add 13 more children to the project.

The Back Pack project began 5 years ago, and has had funding from Foundations to cover the cost of $144.00 per child for the school year. This project is sponsored by Second Harvest and the Regional East Texas Food Bank.
