A silver Buick Century struck a white Pontiac Grand Am at about 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 69. The incident, which injured both drivers and a passenger in the Grand Am, happened near Love’s Lookout.
A Texas Department of Public Safety officer on the scene said it happened when the Century, traveling south on U.S. 69, began to make a left turn into Love’s Lookout. The driver, a 65-year-old female from Jacksonville, turned in front of the Grand Am.
The Grand Am moved to the right to avoid hitting the Century, but the vehicles struck anyway. The Grand Am was hit with enough force to send it into a nearby ditch, where it rolled onto its side. The Century was heavily damaged on the front and the Grand Am was totaled.
Jacksonville and Bullard fire departments arrived to extract the two occupants with a Jaws of Life.
The Century’s driver was taken to Trinity Mother Frances-Jacksonville, and the Grand Am’s occupants were taken to East Texas Medical Center-Jacksonville. The extent of each person’s injuries was not identified.
Authorities said the Century’s driver would be cited for failure to yield right of way on a left turn.
