Three-year-old Lincoln Bemis eyes the Luscious Lemon Layers cake baked by Carolyn Easter of Wells and served Friday as part of a Chili Fest luncheon sponsored for the fifth year by the Cherokee County AgriLife Extension Office. Entries from the extension office's third annual Cherokee County Dessert Bake-Off were served to diners. Young Lincoln is the son of Serena and Adam Bemis of Rusk.
For the second consecutive year, Wells resident Carolyn Easter snagged the top prize in the cake category and best of show with her “Luscious Lemon Layers” entry in this year's Cherokee County Dessert Bake-Off held Friday at the Cherokee County AgriLife Extension Office in Rusk. The event, now in its third year, helps raise funds for the office's Family Consumer Science program, headed by extension agent Wendi Green. Friday's event also include a seed swap and a chili-and-cornbread luncheon. Other bake-off winners include: Pie – Kaylie Arnwine, Oreo Pie; Cookies – Teresa Pfifer, Cin Chip Cookies; Bars – Teresa Pfifer, Brownie Bars.
