Gas station burglarized

JACKSONVILLE —

A local convenience store was burglarized early Tuesday morning and an undisclosed amount of money was taken from the property, according to Jacksonville police.

Sometime between midnight and 5 a.m., one or more unknown suspects entered the Rite Track Valero #7 by “damaging the wall. We have a surveillance video, but are unable to identify anyone at this time,” Detective Javier Guerra said.

Power to the store was disrupted and crews were called in to get things back in running condition before Tuesday evening, according to store personnel, who reported no damage to the interior of the business.

Local contractor Mark Bobbitt of Mark's Construction was at the site Tuesday morning, repairing damage to the wall.

“On first attempt, they hit an obstruction, but they were able to get into the building the second time they tried. This is the first time I've ever seen someone go through a wall this way,” he said, pointing to cut wires splayed out from the building.

“We need to get the wall repaired so the others can come in and replace the wiring. Right now, the store has no way to run their credit card machine or even sell lottery tickets, and they're dealing with customers on a cash-basis,” he said. “Our main goal is to get everything operational by Tuesday afternoon so they can go back to business as normal.”
