JACKSONVILLE —
Michael Reed, a Jacksonville man, was arrested by police officers on a felony warrant Thursday afternoon.
Jacksonville Police Detective Sgt. Daniel Franklin said the arrest, which took place just outside the Norman Activity Center on Austin Street, also resulted in two others being taken into police custody.
“We had worked on a narcotics investigation about narcotics sales in the Palestine Street area,” Franklin said. “The subject we were looking for, Michael Reed, has had warrants for his arrest for a month now and he had been able to elude us.”
Franklin said the department received a call concerning Reed’s location in the Lincoln Park area and an officer was able to describe a blue Chevrolet sedan class vehicle leaving the area. He added a felony traffic stop was soon made and Reed was arrested and charged with delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.
“It was cocaine,” Franklin said. “When Reed left his vehicle officers found other narcotics on his person.” He said the types of pills allegedly with Reed were not known at the time of the arrest.
Jacksonville Police Chief Reece Daniel said the officers and detectives performed a great duty.
“It’s typical police work in Jacksonville,” Daniel said.
As of press time Thursday Reed had not been arraigned to the Cherokee County Jail. The other two individuals Franklin said were taken into custody with Reed have not yet been identified by officers.
