JACKSONVILLE —
Jacksonville residents and East Side Elementary alumni can say their last farewells as the demolition of the school has begun.
The main building is still up and is scheduled to be brought down within two to three weeks, Bruce Fish, with Pogue Construction, said.
“The library, the gym and two classrooms has gone down so far,” he said.
The new school's parking lot will be where the old East Side school was after the demolition is completed.
“I would like it to go down a little faster,” Fish said.
As buildings are going down, construction crews are drilling and moving into the area preparing the way for concrete to get poured.
The New East Side Elementary school, along with Joe Wright Elementary, are projected to be completed by the first day of school on Aug. 27.
