JACKSONVILLE —
Fans flock to high school football games on Friday nights for a wide array of reasons.
The little tykes love interacting with their favorite mascot, as well as attempting to catch a toy football thrown by an energetic and smiling cheerleader.
Some folks love seeing the band, drill team, flag corp and twirlers perform.
And while a select few may may partake in the old ritual of “to see and be seen”, or come to catch up on all the local gossip, most are there to see and cheer on their favorite football team.
The Second Season — district play — either begins of begins to heat up for all Cherokee County and Southern Smith County teams tonight.
Games to be played on the home front include Rusk hosting Fairfield in a District 19-3A opener and a battle pitting two 5-0 squads, the Troup Tigers and the Jefferson Bulldogs, in the District 9-2A-I lid lifter that is scheduled for Tiger Stadium.
In other area action, Alto kicks off its conference campaign by welcoming Cushing to Yellowjacket Stadium.
Jacksonville, Bullard and Brook Hill will be traveling to play their respective league tilts this evening.
The Tribe journey to Nacogdoches for the District 16-4A opener, Bullard visits Gladewater looking for its first District 16-4A win and Brook Hill will trek to Cedar Hill to test Trinity Christian. The Guard will be attempting to improve to 3-0 in conference play.
All games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
