RUSK — The Cherokee County Commissioners Court approved Pattillo, Brown & Hill L.L.P. for the upcoming Sept. 30 audit.

Pct. 2 Commissioner Kevin Pierce made the motion to approve and Pct. 3 Commissioner Katherine Pinotti opposed it.

“They have a great deal of experience working with counties,” Pierce said, referencing a list of dozens of counties the Waco group has worked with and continues to work with.

Pinotti cited concerns about Cherokee County not receiving enough attention during the audit process.

Commissioners also adopted salary administration policies and procedures as well as made changes to the current purchasing and procurement policy.

The salary policies, which have been heavily influenced by the court’s prior passing of the Step and Grade program, was passed with minimal changes from what was presented.

“I think we should all get together and look at job descriptions,” Pinotti said.

Commissioners also changed the purchasing and procurement policy, the process by which grants are obtained, to state groups under disbarment or suspension are not used for federal grant procurement.

In addition to laying utility lines in the county, other decisions made during Monday morning’s meeting included:

• an imaging agreement between Cherokee County and Integrity Title Company LLC. This is for the company to purchase CDs of county records;

• authorization for County Judge Chris Davis to sign all documents to finance a new 2011 Mack dump truck for Precinct 3 with Citizens 1st Bank. This purchase was approved during a prior meeting;

• equipment purchasing for the Cherokee County Game Wardens, about $4,000 worth of mobile gadgets for enforcement purposes; and

• payment of the bills. Pinotti said she opposed because she had not gotten a chance to go through the bills and payments.

Two items were passed on. One, approval of the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool Auto Liability Coverage for a constable’s personal vehicle, was passed because commissioners wanted more information on which constables had what sorts of vehicles. The other, authorization to purchase native gravel from RCT, was passed so the court could gather more information about what is required.

Commissioners Court meetings are held the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the county courtroom of the county courthouse in Rusk at 10 a.m. They are open to the public, but do not include times for public comments on the agenda.
