JACKSONVILLE —
As part of a local military awareness campaign, business owner Cindy Bobbitt of Cindy's Florals, 644 E. Rusk, is donating part of the proceeds from yellow ribbon sales from her shop to the Lone Star Military Resource Group, which serves as a clearing house of information for military families in Cherokee County.
“I'm just tickled to do this,” Bobbitt said, describing how she was approached by LSMR spokesperson Julianne Sanford to take part in the project. “It's a privilege to help do this for the boys.”
Sanford said she hopes the campaign will bring to the front of people's minds how important it is to show moral and psychological support to members of the armed forces and their families, especially in a rural part of the country where there is no military presence, unlike those cities that have bases nearby or within.
She described a recent visit to Fort Polk with her husband, who is in the Army. “When he saw the ribbons there, you could tell how much it moved him,” Sanford said, adding that he isn't one for showy gestures. “He said he appreciated that more than anything else.”
Bobbitt has created a 12-inch bow for display but said she can make them to customer specifications, such as ribbons for car antennas. Contact her shop at 903-284-6722 for more information.
