RUSK — Pct. 2 Commissioner Kevin Pierce stands in front of an L-39 Albatros Jet at the Cherokee County Airport. The pilot was making his way from California to Florida and chose Cherokee County as a refueling stop. The pilot said he chose Cherokee County because of the low fuel price. The Aero L-39 Albatros is a high-performance jet trainer aircraft developed in Czechoslovakia.

Aircraft lifted from Lake Palestine
Official from the Anderson Department of Public Safety pulled the aircraft that crashed into the lake Wednesday from Lake Palestine on Friday afternoon.
The Varga Aircraft found in Lake Palestine has been lifted from the water Friday afternoon. The missing pilot, Fred Scholz, has not been found and the search mission continued.
