City receives early Christmas gift

Local company builds courtroom furniture for municipal court, donates it

Jacksonville Municipal Court Judge Pete Menefee and the City of Jacksonville received an early Christmas gift, recently — new courtroom furniture.

Tuesday, Jacksonville City Manager Mo Raissi called the Jacksonville Daily Progress and said someone should contact Menefee and go see the furniture because it was “indescribable.”

Standing in his newly-furnished courtroom, Menefee stood with Gordon Manore, vice president of Ambienti USA Inc., admiring two tables, a lecturer and a Judge’s seating area which had replaced the former furniture in the courtroom.

“He (Manore) said he had some left over materials, and he wanted to build us some new furniture,” Menefee said. “This is cherry wood with bullet resistant fiberglass inside and (faux) leather tops.”

Manore, whose commercial business has been in Jacksonville since 1981, said his company is “just glad we could accommodate and help out.”

Ambienti USA Inc. has done work for the Galveston County Courthouse, various hotels and casinos and will soon work at the federal courthouse in Jackson, Miss. Manore said he does commercial work only but noticed a need at the municipal court.

“It is better to give than to receive,” Manore said. “I am grateful to be in the position to have the opportunity to do this.”

Menefee was almost speechless about Manore’s gift.

“It’s a beautiful piece of work, and we just can’t thank him enough. It’s just one of those random acts of kindness,” Menefee said.

The new courtroom furniture was used for the first time Tuesday night during a planning and zoning meeting.
