BULLARD —
A detached garage was completely destroyed in a Monday morning fire, but the home was saved.
Crews were called to a home on the 500 block of Ella Street at 4:54 a.m. Monday. Bullard and Flint-Gresham volunteer departments responded.
Dale Linebaugh, Bullard firefighter, said upon arrival the detached garage was fully engulfed in flames. He said two vehicles, ATVs, a boat, a lawn mower and several tools were destroyed in the blaze. The flames did not damage the home and no one was injured.
“The homeowner was woken by some loud popping sounds,” Linebaugh said. “It was probably the tires on the vehicle popping.”
David Griffith, homeowner, said he used a water hose on the fire closest to his home until crews arrived. He said the heat was intense and he could only spray for about 10 seconds and then douse himself before returning his attention to the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“They were lucky it was a detached garage,” Linebaugh said. “That early in the morning, it could have been a lot worse.”
Griffith said the family was insured for everything except for the boat.
