Wafford, Suttles unite in marriage
Joining their lives and hearts, Ashley Jill Wafford married Shaun Cason Suttles April 22, 2006 at the Mt.Vernon church of Christ, in Mt.Vernon. Scott Wallace, youth minister from Nacogdoches, Texas, officiated the double ring ceremony. Janessa Malone sang as the grandparents and parents of the couple were seated.
The bride, escorted by her father, entered the church to Pachelbel’s “Canon in D Major”. She wore a strapless A-Line gown of white satin and organza. The bodice and chapel length train were embellished with beading and metallic embroidery. She also wore a necklace and earrings of champagne colored baroque pearls made by her aunt, Annette Escobar. A handkerchief, which was the bonnet that she wore home from the hospital at her birth, was woven into her bouquet of tulips, roses and hydrangeas. The bride’s garter was made by her grandmother, Wanda Pendergrass.
Dala Narramore, cousin of the bride, served as the maid of honor, wearing a celadon floor length A-line spaghetti strap gown with an organza drape. Bridesmaids were Meagan Suttles, sister of the groom, Erin Corley, Anna Ashby and Amanda Smith, friends of the bride. They wore gowns of the same style, in soft pink and all carried two dark pink roses tied with pale pink sheer ribbon. Olivia Harrison, flower girl and cousin of the groom, scattered tulip and rose petals saved from the couple’s courtship.
The best man was Ryan Tyndell, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Luke Harrison, cousin of the groom, Aaron Wafford, brother of the bride, Larry Christensen and Scott Osterhoudt, friends of the groom. Landon Wafford, cousin of the bride, carried the ring pillow that was made by the bride’s grandmother, Wanda Pendergrass, for the bride’s parents wedding.
A reception at the Franklin County Airport followed. Finger foods were served along with punch from a silver fountain. The bride’s cake was four layers and iced in white with scrollwork on each of the layers. Pink roses and green hydrangeas cascaded down one side. The groom’s cake was a playing field resembling the Houston Astros stadium, Minute Maid Park. The groom’s mother made the cakes. Serving were Starr Worley, Magen Harvey, Keitra Stoker and Lacy Hoffman, friends of the bride.
Cousins of the bride, Alexandra and Abby Wafford, passed out rose petals used to shower the couple as they left in a red and white 1955 Ford Fairlane driven by Randy Wafford, uncle of the bride.
The bride is the daughter of Mike and Patti Wafford of Mt. Vernon. She is a 2001 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in December 2005. She plans to teach in the Nacogdoches area.
The groom is the son of Kerry and Debra Suttles of Jacksonville, Texas. He is a 1997 graduate of Jacksonville High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2002. He is employed by The Burke Center in Lufkin, Texas.
The bride’s grandparents are W.D. and Lilly Wafford, Wanda Pendergrass and James and Norma Narramore. The groom’s grandparents are William and Kathryn Draper and Ray Suttles and the late Matalew Suttles.
The groom’s parents hosted a barbeque dinner following the rehearsal. Guests were entertained with a slide show of the couple’s lives, prepared by the groom’s mother and sister. It was also played throughout the reception.
Following a seven day Caribbean cruise, the couple will make their home in Nacogdoches, Texas.
