Lady Eagles carve up the field in Hallsville tourney; Rusk now 12-2

HALLSVILLE —  Rusk showed six East Texas softball teams just why they are ranked No.1 in Texas in Class 3A.

The Lady Eagles improved to 12-2 on the year by picking up six-shutout victories late last week to win the championship of the Hallsville Tournament.

Rusk's Sydney Littlejohn, who as University of Alabama bound after this year, threw goose eggs at Hallsville (2-0), Carthage (2-0), White Oak (2-0), Lindale (1-0), Beckville (10-0) and against Van (4-0) in the championship game.

The Lady Eagles got timely hits along the way from several players in providing Littlejohn enough run support to go on the progression.

Rusk will return to play beginning on Thursday when they open play in the Van Tournament. That event will run through Saturday.

NOTE: Despite their success in Hallsville the Lady Eagles dropped from No. 1 to No. 8 in this week’s TGCA Class 3A poll. Go figure?
