PORT ARTHUR —
Jacksonville College's mens basketball team lost its first road game since a Dec. 5, 2012 overtime setback to Tyler Junior College on Saturday when Lamar State-Port Arthur upended the Jaguars 97-72 at the Carl Parker Center.
JC head coach Jody Bailey need only a few words to describe what took place.
“They (Lamar St.) played extremely well and we didn't play very well,” he said.
The loss was eye popping for at least a couple of reasons.
First, the Purple and White have played much better on the road this season than they have at home.
JC also seemed to have built up a nice head of steam after winning seven of eight games in the month of January.
Then in its last outing prior to Saturday, the Jags smacked Angelina College, 70-56, in a game that was played in Jacksonville.
But every night is a new night in the world of NJCAA Region XIV hoops, and with that comes the bitter and the sweet.
The loss means the JC guys (16-7, 7-5) are now in a four-way tied for fourth in the South Zone, along with the Seahawks, Lee College and Angelina.
Lamar St. upped its overall docket to 17-6 with the victory.
The Jags have a short turnaround this week as they are slated to host San Jacinto (17-4, 8-4) at 7 p.m. tonight at Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse.
