Turnovers prove costly in Bullard loss

MINEOLA — Early mistakes proved lethal for Bullard on Friday night as an opportunistic Mineola outfit took full advantage of the Panthers’ misfortunes by coming away with a 31-17 win at Meredith Memorial Stadium.

The Yellowjackets (1-1) took a 24-0 lead at halftime and never looked back, sending the Panthers (0-2) home with the double-digit defeat.

Offensively, Joe Ganaway crossed the goal line from 3 and from 5 yards out for Bullard, who scored all of its points in the third frame, while quarterback Kirk Bryant rushed for 169 yards.

Mineola was paced by quarterback Erik Galaz who passed for 150 yards and ran for 51 more. He also scored two touchdowns in the opening half.

Bullard travels to Palestine Westwood this week while Mabank hosts Kemp. Both non-district games are set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
