The good news is the Jacksonville College Jaguars ran their docket to 4-1 on Saturday afternoon as they drubbed Lone Star College-Cy Fair (non-NJCAA) 104-90 at the Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse.
Now, for the bad news.
Despite the 14-point win, JC head coach Jody Bailey said that he was not happy with the way his team played.
And, when coach ain't happy, ain't nobody happy, as the old saying around the gymnasium goes.
“We only shot 52-percent (22-of-42) from the free throw line and we missed 13 layups, so by my math we left about 40 points on the table,” Bailey said. “I'm not happy about that. We're doing some good things and we started out hot on Saturday, but we we didn't sustain that momentum and we have to get that fixed this week in practice. We start conference play in a week and we can't afford to be giving away that many points and expect to win those games.”
At the same time, Bailey said that despite being a non-scholarship team, the Fighting Ducks deserved a lot of respect.
“This is the best Cy-Fair team we've faced.” Bailey said. “Two of their guys, their inside guy and their point guard, really kicked out butt.” Bailey said.
Kennedy Eubanks and Daniel Skinner fueled the Jags by canning 19 points each, while Mitchell Farr chipped in 15.
Also charting in double figures were, Tyrell Springer (11) and Nimrod Hillard IV (10) and Mike Manning (10).
Eubanks, shot 70-percent (7-of-10) form the field, including going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Skinner also shot lights out by draining 7-of-8 (87.5-percent) from the field.
Skinner contributed six rebounds and assists to the winning cause.
Hillard led the unit in boards, tallying seven.
Key team stats for the Jags included 41 deflections, 23 steals and 26 assists on 37 field goals.
The Jags return to the court on Thursday when they are slated to face Temple in the Navarro Classic in Corsicana.
The following day the JC men will line up against another team form NJCAA Region V, McLennan.
JC's next home game will be at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20 when Navarro invades the Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse in the Region XIV opener for both units.
