JACKSONVILLE —
This year’s Jacksonville Maiden cross country team is not only strong in number — the roster totals around 15 young ladies — but well structured with a nucleus of runners that take their sport serious.
“I am impressed with out numbers this year,” head coach Kiff Wiemers said in a recent interview. “In addition to that, we have a lot of experience returning and we have a core of runners that are extremely dedicated.”
Dedicated is a very good word choice by Wiemers as the unit hits the trails at 5:45 a.m. to get their practice work in prior to the start of class.
Wiemers also said that he has four middle school students — Kelsi Pate, Collin Lobb, Abby Traylor and Caitlyn Matejka — who are prepping to compete in the middle school divisions of the various meets the Maidens will participate in this fall.
Jacksonville opens the fall season Saturday when they journey to Longview for the Spring Hill Meet.
The Maidens will run in Jacksonville twice this year.
First on Oct. 28 during the annual Tribe Meet and in the District 14-4A Meet which will take place on Oct. 28.
