CARTHAGE —
To say Troup had the hot hand from beyond the arc Tuesday would be an understatement.
The Tigers popped in nine long balls which enabled Troup, the District 18-2A co-champions, to claim a 66-58 win over the Jefferson Bulldogs in Class 2A Region II bi-district win at Bulldog Gymnasium in Carthage on Tuesday evening.
Marcus Kincade came off the bench with five second quarter points to spark a 21-6 spurt after trailing 19-16 with one period complete.
The team-specialty of 3-point shooting was evidenced as well with seven in the first half, back-to-backers by Hunter Clark, and a buzzer-beating trey from Richard ‘Chick’ Lacy made the largest lead of the game at the break with a 37-25 cushion.
Jefferson made a run to close it back within 43-39 until Lacy busted two more treys to push the Tiger lead back to 52-37 at the two-minute mark of the third period.
“I thought our kid’s rallied around each other and it was a total team effort tonight,” said Troup first-year head coach, Jody Sorey. “Tonight we played about as well as we have played in a few weeks and that was good to see.”
Lacy led all scorers in the game with 23-points while teammates, Clark and Bradly Stewart were in double-digits with 13- and 10-points respectively.
The Bulldogs (18-12), were paced by Terrance Whitaker with 19-points. Jefferson point guard, David Police canned one trey and scored 14 points and Devonte Singleton rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points in the setback.
Jefferson ends the season with a 18-12 record.
Troup advances to play Palestine-Westwood late this week at a time and location to be announced.
