The Jacksonville Fight'n Maiden softball squad opened the 2013 season by playing in the Longview Tournament late last week.
The high point for Jacksonville was a 4-3 win over Palestine.
Nicole Robinson plated the winning run off of a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Whitaker in that game.
Damonica Franklin hit her first home run in a loss to Groesbeck on Friday.
Jacksonville went 1-5 in the tourney.
The losses came at the hands of Gladewater (14-0), Hallsville (6-3), Groesbeck (12-6), Groesbeck (10-0) and to Longview (9-7).
“The team consistently improved its performance as the tournament went on,” Jacksonville head coach Amber Danner-Kirk said.
Junior varsity: The Jacksonville junior varsity posted a 5-1 record in the tournament, with wins coming over New Diana (17-2), Queen City (15-0), Quitman (11-0), Central (8-3) and Paul Pewitt (14-4)...The Maidens' only loss was to Lindale, 12-2.

JHS Spring Football Scrimmage: Game ends in a 107-107 deadlock
After two live quarters and a pair of 10-minute running-clock periods the first Jacksonville Blue vs. White spring football scrimmage since 2004 ended in a 107-107 tie Friday night at Tomato Bowl.

Fight'n Indians set to scrimmage tonight
Jacksonville High School will be wrapping up spring football practice by staging a Blue vs. White scrimmage at 6 p.m. this evening at Tomato Bowl.

The last ride of the night turned out to be the most spectacular ride of the evening Wednesday night when Austin Meier scored an 87 for his ride atop "Rainbow" in the final segment of bull riding on the opening night of the Tops In Texas PRCA Rodeo.
