No. 1-ranked Lady Cardinals soar past Lady Jaguars, 76-57

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville College women's basketball team made things interesting for about 26 minutes of Saturday's Region XIV game against top-ranked Trinity Valley Community College.

But in the final 14 minutes the Lady Cardinals proved to the large crowd on hand why they occupy such a lofty perch as TVCC went on to outscore the JC ladies 36-16 in the final 14 minutes of play while coasting to a 76-57 victory.

The Lady Cards are now 26-1, 13-0 Region XIV, while the Lady Jags slip to 14-12, 6-6.

JC led 28-27 at halftime after getting a solid defensive effort that held TVCC to 24.3-percent (9-37) from the field in the opening stanza.

TVCC forced JC to commit 29 turnovers in the game while the Lady Cards surrendered the ball 12 times.

Krystal Henderson and Savannah Carter led the Lady Cards in scoring by dumping in 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Deva'Nyar Workman led the Lady Jags in scoring with a game-high 19 points. Susan Agesen pumped in 12 for JC.

Khadijah Carter, who fouled out early, added 10 points while Chelsea Rogers went 3-6 from downtown to end up with nine points for the Lady Jags.

The Lady Jags will return to the court at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday by visiting San Jacinto.

JC defeated the Gators 71-58 in mid January in the two teams’ first meeting.
