Prep soccer: Nacogdoches takes two from Jacksonville

Nacodogches — In a match that was delayed a day due to weather-related issues, the Nacogdoches Lady Dragons shutout Jacksonville's Fight'n Maidens 2-0 in the District 35 opener for both clubs.

The Jacksonville girls, who are having to replace six starters lost to graduation, are now 3-10-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Lady Dragons led 1-0 at halftime and scored thier additional goal when Jacksonville head coach Kiff Wiemers pulled the Maidens keeper late in order to be able to add an attacker in hopes of being able to tie the match.

“It was really a 1-0 match, we elected to try to get a boost up at the top (offensively) there late and it didn’t work out for us.,” Wiemers said.

Jacksonville flirted with scoring twice in the second half as the managed to get the ball up to the goal mouth, but not across the the white line.

Jacksonville will look to bounce back when it hosts Diboll at 7 p.m. this evening at Tomato Bowl.

Boys: Nacogdoches 6, Jacksonville 3 — There were plenty of offensive fireworks in this district-opening match between the two rivals, with the visiting Dragons able to double up Jacksonville (5-7, 0-1) on the scoreboard on Wednesday.

The Tribe are going through a rough stretch now, having lost players to injury and for academic reasons.

At 7 p.m tonight the Tribe will get a chance to redeem themselves when they take on the Lumberjacks in Diboll.
