JACKSONVILLE —
Jacksonville went 2-1 on Saturday in final-day play of the Sabine Tournament, and as a result were abel to come home with the Consolation crown.
After losing a closely contested match to Union Grove 2-1 (21-25, 26-24, 17-25) to open the day, head coach Billie Walley's Fight'n Maidens rebounded by leveling Leverett's Chapel 2-0 (25-9, 25-14) and by taking two of three sets against the Lady Raiders from West Rusk.
Jacksonville Shelbi Laney earned a spot onto the All-Tournament team for her efforts in the tourney, which began Thursday.
Jacksonville (9-15) has three matches left before District 16-4A play gets under way at John Tyler on Sept. 21.
Tonight the Maidens travel down to Grapeland for matches against the Sandiettes.
The freshmen will get things started at 4:30 p.m., followed by the junior varsity and varsity affairs.
At 4:30 p.m. Friday the Maidens will return home to play The Brook Hill School.
Jacksonville will be looking to avenge a 3-1 loss suffered to the Lady Guard that came on opening night in Bullard.
