Lady Jag tennis to face stiff competition at TJC Invite

Tyler —

It has often been said that success occurs when preparation meets opportunity.

The Jacksonville College women's tennis team will be attempting to find success today and tomorrow when they are slated to take part in the Tyler Junior College Apache Invite, which will take place at the Murphy Tennis Center on the TJC campus.

Head coach Kenneth Michaud is planning to entire all eight ladies that are on the JC roster as the fall season winds down with what could be the first-year club's most formidable challenge to date.

“This will be the toughest field, by far, that we have played in,” Michaud said. “We will be facing some of the top (NCAA) Division II players from Midwestern State (Wichita Falls) and St. Mary's (San Antonio) in addition to players from Tyler Junior College, Temple, Collin County and various collegiate players that will be entered as unattached.”

Michaud said that he will be looking for three things from his young ladies this weekend.

“I want us to make sure we play with positive attitudes, that we fight for every point and that we play with a mental toughness, regardless of the circumstances,” he said. “It we can do those three things, it will be a good weekend.”

Kerri Kirkpatrick and Britney Sibley will be seeded in Flight 1 in singles play, with Kaylee Hullett and Kaila Parker scheduled for Flight 2 action.

JC will have four women, Caitlin Renson, Ashley Hermis, Anderia Callahan and Kaitlan Walden penciled into Flight 3.

In doubles, the Sibley & Kirkpatrick tandem will compete in Flight 1.

Flight 2 will include the Lady Jag pairings of Hullett & Parker, Renson & Callahan and Walden & Hermis.

NOTES: Michaud wanted to encourage JC fans to not only come out this weekend and support the Lady Jags in the TJC tournament, but also mark their calendars for 5 p.m. Tuesday when both the Jag and Lady Jag netters will go up against the UT-Tyler club team at UT-Tyler. Action is scheduled to get under at 5 p.m.
