When it comes to recruiting JC’s Michaud leaves no stone unturned

JACKSONVILLE —  Jacksonville College head tennis coach Kenneth Michaud spent last weekend along the beaches of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

His trip to the Magnolia State had nothing to do with sun tanning, fishing or relaxing, no far from it.

Michaud was one of seven college tennis coaches that gathered for College Tennis Recruiting Day hosted by Treasure Oak Country Club, Steve Pennington (Tennis Director) in Ocean Springs, Miss.

The program allowed promising youth between the ages of 10 and 19-years-old to show off their tennis skills while working one-on-one with the various collegiate coaches, including Michaud.

The innovative event drew youth, some which were ranked, from Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Michaud said what attracted him to the showcase was the opportunity to disseminate the word  about the new JC tennis program into a new market.

“I thought the recruiting day went well,” Michaud said. “I was excited to be able to meet a lot of talented (junior players) and it was great to be able to explain to them what we are doing here at Jacksonville College with our tennis program. And to be there along side tennis coaches from such prestigious schools as Tulane University was quite an experience.”

Michaud said about 70 young men and women were in attendance and that he hopes in the near future to be able to see at least a couple of those players at JC.

“I'm hoping that we can sign at least one or two kids from the showcase,” he said. “We want to extend our footprint outside of Texas when it comes to recruiting whenever we can, and from the feedback I got, there are kids out there who are interested in the Christian learning environment that our school provides, as well as being a part of a new collegiate tennis program.”
