Jacksonville Indians to face a battle tested McKinney North team in Area hoops action

EMORY — When Jacksonville (33-1) faces off against McKinney North (21-11) in a Class 4A, Region II, Area game at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Rains High School Gymnasium in Emory, the Tribesmen will be going up against a playoff and big-game tested bunch of Bulldogs, who finished as the second-place team behind Lucas Lovejoy in District 13-4A.

McKinney North, 66-45 winners over Texas High in Monday's bi-district affair, has a roster that is filled largely by seven juniors, who made it all the way to the Area round a year ago before exiting post season with a loss to Dallas Woodrow Wilson.

The Bulldogs have taken their experiences from 2011-12 and added that to a brutally tough non-district schedule to become a rather salty outfit that could give the No.11-ranked Indians all they want this evening.

Included in McKinney North's challenging non-conference schedule was a 54-44 loss to The Woodlands, the No.14-ranked team in Class 5A.

The Bulldogs also played three Class 4A schools in non-district that are still playing in the post season: Frisco (lost, 84-81), West Mesquite (lost, 77-65) and Wylie (won, 63-62).

McKinney North, who was led in scoring in the Texas High game by Collin Curran (15 points), will feature a balanced attack as six Bulldogs either scored in, or near double figures in the bi-district win.

In Jacksonville's 63-62 overtime win over Lancaster, Kedarrius Buckingham led the way with 20 points, followed by Raybon Riden with 13 and Dadrain Franklin and Daytron Thompson, who wound up with 12 points each.

It was a Riden free throw that came with .5 showing on the scoreboard that gave the Indians the win over Lancaster on Tuesday.

The winner between the Indians and the Bulldogs will meet up with either Mansfield Legacy or Sherman in a regional quarterfinal early next week.
