Chapel Hill baseball tourney: Jacksonville, Troup notch wins
NEW CHAPEL HILL — Jacksonville humbled Class A Mount Enterprise 15-0 in the Chapel Hill Tournament on Thursday. Freshman Mason Smith tossed a 1-hitter at the Wildcats. All nine position players reached base and scored at least one run for the Indians. The Tribe then went out and beat T.K. Gorman 9-1 early Friday morning to improve to 2-1 on the year. Troup was able to outscored Gilmer, 9-5, behind Seth Gibson's triple, which plated two runs. Mason Mallard forged a double and drove two runs in for the Tigers. Troup led 9-1 going into the fifth inning. The tournament is scheduled to conclude today.
Eagle baseball posts first victory of season
PALESTINE — Rusk knocked of Madisonville, 3-2, Thursday in opening day play of the Palestine Tournament. Mason Johnson got the start on the hump for the Eagles (1-1) and worked four innings and struck out four. Jadarian Skinner, who got credit for the win, toiled the final-three frames and fanned three. Austin Ballew and Johnson had key hits for the Eagles. Madisonville outhit Rusk 6-3 in the game.
JHS's Minifee earns spot on Class 4A All-State Football Team
BRYAN — Jacksonville High School's Darrell Minifee has been named to the 62nd Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 4A All-State Football Team. Minifee is a 6-foot, 150 lb. Senior who has signed with Trinity Valley Community College.
Rumbelow, Bryant, Gray represent Bullard on Class 3A All-State Football Team
BRYAN — Trevor Rumbelow has been voted onto the 62nd Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State Football Team. The 6-foot, 220 lb. senior was a Third Team choice at center, along with Joe Brandenburg of Monahans. Defensive back Holden Bryant and Weston Gray (punter) were Honorable Mention choices from Bullard. Both are seniors.
Former JC assistant leads Eastern Okla. to national ranking
WILBURTON, OKLA. — Former Jacksonville College assistant women's basketball coach Amber Taylor, in just her second season as head coach at Eastern Oklahoma State University in Wilberton, Okla., has led the Lady Mountaineers to garner national attention. Eastern (20-6) is currently ranked No. 22 in this NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Poll and has won nine of its last 10 games.
Instructional tennis program for kids to roll out in early March
A tennis instructional program for kids in grades 2-7 will begin on Mar. 4 and will continue each Monday through May 20. Lessons cost $10 per month and will be given at the JHS tennis courts by Chuck Roper. The one-hour classes will focus on tennis basics. For more information phone (903) 330-7027.

Tops In Texas PRCA Rodeo: Meier earns 87-point rid on 'Rainbow'
The last ride of the night turned out to be the most spectacular ride of the evening Wednesday night when Austin Meier scored an 87 for his ride atop "Rainbow" in the final segment of bull riding on the opening night of the Tops In Texas PRCA Rodeo.
