High School Soccer Roundup JHS girls fall to Lufkin in season opener

Progress staff reports

LUFKIN — The Lady Panthers of Lufkin received goals from four different players in posting a 5-0 win over Jacksonville in the Maidens’ season opener, played Tuesday night at Jase Magers Field in Lufkin.

Despite the score, Jacksonville head coach Kiff Wiemers said things were not as bad as the final score indicated. “Lufkin has a real strong team and it was a challenge for us to face them to start the year, but I saw things out there that I liked and actually, the game was closer than the score indicated,” Wiemers said.

Lufkin also prevailed in the junior varsity tilt, winning 12-0. The Maidens will return to the pitch this weekend as they are scheduled to play in the Mount Pleasant tournament.
