BROWNSBORO — Kayla Welling and Ashley Ricci combined to score 31 points — Welling led the way with 18 — as the Bullard Lady Panthers outlasted Mount Vernon 52-50 Friday in the Great East Texas Shootout in Brownsboro.
Bullard was scheduled to face John Tyler (10-5) in a semi-final game Saturday. With a win against the Lady Lions, the Lady Panthers would advance into Saturday evening’s final.
Mount Vernon claimed the early lead, as the Lady Tigers held a 12-9 advantage after the first eight minutes of play.
Bullard answered, though, in the following stanza by outscoring Mount Vernon 18-12 to take a 27-24 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Tigers chipped a point off Bullard’s advantage after three quarters as the Lady Panthers were up 44-42 with one segment yet to be contested.
Minta Spears added nine points, including two shots from long range for the Lady Panthers.
Mount Vernon’s Marisa Summerlin was the game’s top scorer with 23 points.
