Progress staff reports

WINNSBORO — The Bullard Lady Panthers opened play in the Winnsboro Hoop Fest Thursday by falling to Rockwall-Heath, 32-30.

The score was tied at 16 at the break before the Lady Panthers outscored Heath 10-5 in third frame.

But Bullard was not able to sustain that momentum in the fourth period as Heath won the stanza 11-4 to take the two-point decision.

Christina Hatten and Kayla Welling had 11 points a piece for Bullard while Minta Spears tossed in nine. Hatten had three baskets from long distance, with Spears accounting for two.

Bullard came back later Thursday and punished Sulpher Springs, winning 61-30.

Spears led the way with six buckets from three-point land — 19 points in the game — for the Lady Panthers. Ashley Ricci scored 13 and Samantha Phillips chipped in with nine.

The Lady Panthers continued their winning ways Friday by out gunning Pittsburg, 45-32. Hatten sparked Bullard on offense by scoring 12 points, followed by Spears with 11 and Welling who added nine.

Bullard was not so fortunate in their late game Friday as Tyler Lee handed the Lady Panthers a 60-46 loss.

Lee held Bullard to just nine points in the second quarter as the Lady Raiders, who led 31-20 at the half, did most of the damage early.

Spears topped out with 16 points for the Lady Panthers and Ally Covalt added nine.

Bullard is now 6-4 on the season.
