HALLSVILLE — Bullard earned the win, but Hallsville made it a hard-earned victory, as the Lady Panthers had to repel a fierce fourth-quarter charge by the Ladycats to hold on for a 52-49 victory in a game played at Bobcat Gymnasium Friday night.
The Lady Panthers (2-1) appeared on the way to recording a double-digit decision over the Class 4-A Ladycats as Bullard led 45-34 after three quarters of play.
But a strong rally by the Ladycats — Hallsville outscored Bullard 15-7 in the final frame — took the final outcome to the final stages.
Minta Spears spearheaded the Bullard attack by pouring in 27 points including five buckets from three-point land.
Christina Hatten added 10 points for the Lady Panthers while Kayla Welling added six.
Hallsville was guided by 17 efforts from Monica Perez and Meagan McGuire.
Bullard also was success in the junior varsity tilt as the Lady Panthers knocked off Hallsville 60-59 in triple overtime.
The Lady Panthers are back in action Friday at 10 a.m., playing Jacksonville (2-2) in the Burger King Classic at the Tyler Lee Varsity Gymnasium.
