Kilgore outlasts Tribe in JV action

Staff Report

KILGORE — In a game best described as a defensive struggle, it seems only fitting that Jacksonville’s only score of the night was via a defensive touchdown.

Michael Waddell intercepted a Kilgore pass in the second quarter and scurried down the sideline for a pick six, covering 35 yards, but in the end it wasn’t enough as Kilgore prevailed over the Tribe 13-6 in a junior varsity game played at R. E. St. John Stadium Thursday night.

The Bulldogs got on the board first on a first-period touchdown with Waddell’s touchdown knotting the game at six all.

After a scoreless third frame, the Bulldogs scored what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown with about five minutes to play. That is when the ‘Dogs cashed in on a Tribe miscue, taking the ball 20 yards in five plays for the quick score.

Jerrian Campbell and Kenneth Robertson were key contributors on the defensive side for Jacksonville who is now 4-4-1, 1-3 in district, on the year.

The Tribe JV unit travel to Lindale this week for their season finale. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
