CENTRAL HEIGHTS — Zavalla (30-6) eliminated New Summerfield (19-13) from the Class A-I state playoffs on Friday night at Central Heights High School by taking a 51-25 win over NS in Region III Area action.
The Lady Eagles, who were led in scoring by thier 6' 4", junior post, Caitlyn Lambert, who dropped in 16 points, took a 27-9 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Hornets pulled to within 15 points, 32-17, midway of the third, but that was as close as they would be able to get.
NS suffered through a frigid 20.7% (11-53) shooting night from the field.
Simone Derrett led NS in scoring with 14 — she also came down with a team-high nine boards.
Maritzza Melendez added four points, and Tanya Saurez had three.
Zavalla will move on to play either Neches or Dallardsville Big Sandy early next week in the regional quarterfinal round.
