ELKHART —
The Troup High School softball seemed to pick up from where they left off last season, a year that saw the Lady Tigers win a school-record 30 games, by blasting Elkhart's Lady Elks 6-0 in Elkhart on Tuesday night.
Josee Ross propelled the Lady Tigers by giving a strong effort at the plate — Ross hit the Lady Tigers' first home run of the season — while also hurling a shutout from the pitching circle.
Defensive the Troup ladies looked to be in mid-season form as they turned in an error-free game according to head coach Sam Weeks.
“I am very proud of the way the girls came out and performed (Tuesday),” Weeks said. “We had a few people playing in different positions and everyone worked together to get the job done.”
Troup opened play in the Carthage Tournament yesterday.
Action involving the Lady Tigers continues today when Troup takes on Tyler Lee at 3 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. game against Linden-Kildare, the team that elimination from post-season play last season.
The tournament ends on Saturday with bracket play.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to open the home portion of their schedule at 6 p.m. Tuesday when Carthage comes to town.
