PARIS —
The Jacksonville College Lady Jaguars floundered in the final minutes of play during Tuesday's Region XIV game with Paris Junior College and the Lady Dragons took advantage of their guests' struggles by upsetting JC, 58-54.
The loss dropped the JC ladies (12-11, 5-5 Region XIV) into fifth place in the conference standings while the Lady Dragons (7-15, 2-8) moved into eighth place, which is significant given the fact that only nine teams qualify for the league's post-season tournament.
JC had its chances late, but failed to capitalize.
Trailing 56-53 with 14 seconds left to play the Lady Jags got the ball into the hands of their leading scorer Khadijah Carter who put up a shot that missed its mark.
Carter was fouled on the play however.
Having gone 4-4 from the charity stripe up until that point, Carter missed her first free throw, before draining the second, to slice the PJC lead to 56-54.
A Lady Dragon was then fouled on PJC's subsequent possession.
With 10 ticks showing on the clock PJC added two free throws to salt the win away at that point.
Carter led all players with 23 points.
Jinaki Robinson fired in nine points, with Chelsea Rogers, Jasmine Robinson and Susan Agesen adding six points apiece.
The Lady Jags will step out of league play to host the Dallas Diesel semi-pro team at 4 p.m. Saturday.
