Jaguars net 12 3's in 17-point win over Paris Dragons

JACKSONVILLE — As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect, and while Jacksonville College's effort may have fallen short of pure perfection on Tuesday, it was nevertheless enough to send Paris Junior College home with an 86-73 Region XIV defeat.

The Jaguars (12-5, 3-3 Region XIV) exploded for a dozen 3-pointers on the night, which contributed greatly to the Jags' win.

The bevy of successful three balls came as a result of extra practice time which concentrated  on shooting, according to JC head coach, Jody Bailey.

“We've been spending a lot of time in the gym working on our craft (of shooting) and when you do that you can produce numbers like we were able to achieve,”he said. “Just like a baseball player lives in the batting cage, basketball players have to live in the gym and they have to practice shooting the ball a lot and that's what we have been doing.”

For the third time in 2013 the JC men won in wire-to-wire fashion.

JC led by as many as 20 points in the opening half before going to the dressing room with a 47-33 lead at intermission.

Paris (8-9, 2-4), who was led in scoring by Sheldon Yearwood's 19 points, won the battle of the final half by outscoring JC, 40-39.

Devon Anderson wound up as high man for the Jags, scoring 17 points, which included three shots from downtown.

Daniel Skinner came in with 16 points — Skinner also drained a trio of threes.

Tyrell Springer scored 12 points for JC, followed by Mitchell Farr's 11 and Kennedy Eubanks who contributed 10.

Farr popped in three treys and Eubanks swished two shots from behind the arc.

“We're improving and are playing better, but we are not where we want to be, yet,” Bailey added. “We want to continue to be successful because success is addictive...it's all about consistency now.”

The Purple and White will travel to Bossier Parish (La.) Community College (7-6, 1-4) on Saturday.

Tip off is slated for 4 p.m.
