Alto outlasts Garrison in fumblefest

GARRISON — Fumbles, fumbles and more fumbles were the storyline in Garrison Friday night.

Garrison coughed up the pigskin six times, losing four of them while Alto fumbled four times, losing three, but in the end the Yellowjackets managed to escape Bulldog Stadium with the 33-26 victory.

The Bulldogs went to work on the ‘ Jackets early as Scooter Ross made his way into the end zone from 56 yards out early in the opening stanza. Ross was the game’s leading rusher with 215 yards on 23 scampers.

Garrison extended their margin to 13 zip following a 10-yard Josh Williams run for six.

Javonte Jones accounted for Alto’s first touchdown, a 10-yard run, that made the score 13-7.

Jones paced the Yellowjacket offense by picking up just over 60 yards on the ground to accompany a touchdown. He also passed for 89 yards (5-11-0) in addition to having a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Garrison runners piled up 342 yards of rushing against the Alto defense, but the Mean Sting picked up 144 yards aloft to zero from the Bulldogs.

Alto (2-0) travels to Arp, the No.2 -ranked team in Class 2A, game this week. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Garrison (1-1) will also hit the road Friday, traveling to Pineland West Sabine.
