VAN — The Van Vandals amassed 400 yards of total offense while limiting Rusk to just 85 total yards as Van scored a one-sided, 42-8, decision over the Eagles at Memorial Stadium Friday.
Van improves to 2-0 with the win, while Rusk slipped to 0-2 on the season.
Vandal quarterback Tyler Sharpe tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another to nearly single handily doom the Eagles’ chances.
Sharpe hit Michael Terry on a 77-yard touchdown pass with just over eight minutes to play in the opening stanza and then added a 71-yard touchdown pass to Tori Parsons about five minutes later as the Vandals built a 28-0 advantage at the break.
Rusk’s only touchdown came with 7:31 to play in the tilt when Demario Richards scooped up a Van fumble and raced 74 yards to the end zone.
Marcel Johnson added the two-point conversion to account for the remain Rusk points.
Rusk will play host to Gladewater (0-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a non-district contest.
