JACKSONVILLE —
With the NJCAA basketball recruiting season in its final strides, Jody Bailey, Jacksonville College head men's basketball coach, says that it is imperative for his club to finish up its recruiting efforts in strong fashion.
The Jaguars have 10 players locked up, but need at least four more to round things out.
“Some real good kids have told us yes, and some others have said no,” Bailey said. “We are praying that we are able to finish strong.”
Having signed its last player (Nimrod Hillard, IV) exactly a month ago today, the JC recruiting efforts could be feeling the affects of the school being without an assistant coach, following Phillipe Lilavois' departure to take over the same position at McMurry University earlier this summer.
His replacement, Bert Capel who is from Florida State University, want have his boots on the ground in Jacksonville until Wednesday.
“It has been difficult to recruit this summer,” Bailey said. “I hope I never have to go through this again, it makes things much, much tougher.
“I know I have a (work) list a mile long of things for Bert to do once he gets in here and I can't wait to give it (the list) to him.”
Being an optimist, however, Bailey said that he would rather focus on the players JC has papers on, instead of crying in his ice tea over who will fill the remaining roster spots prior to the start of classes in mid August.
“We are excited, really excited, about how good six or seven of our incoming players are,” Bailey said. “I think our fans will be happy when they get a chance to see them.
“Region XIV is getting tougher every day and we have to keep pace with everyone. I think you will find the talent level in our league this fall to be absolutely amazing.”
