Jacksonville College linksters look to improve at Mary Hardin-Baylor tournament

JACKSONVILLE — Golfers from Jacksonville College will journeying to Central Texas for the Mary Hardin-Baylor Invitational, a 36-hole tournament which is slated to be played on Monday and Tuesday at the Stonetree Golf Club in Killeen.

The JC linksters, who are coached by Lynn Nabi, are fresh off their first tournament of the fall campaign, which took place on Monday.

The Jaguar golfers were 8th out of 11 teams in the Paris Invitational, while the JC women were fifth among five schools.

Matthew Hance, a freshman from Montgomery, Texas, finished third in the individual standings last week to guide the JC men.

Hance shot rounds of 68 and 70.

“I'm really looking for our three, four and five players to do better in this tournament,” Nabi said. “If they do, I think we will be ok and I'm expecting an improved effort from them.”

The Jags/Lady Jags should appreciate the more traditional format that the Mary Hardin-Baylor Invitational will offer, in that the 36 holes will be spread out over two days, as opposed to 36 holes in one day, as was the case in Paris.

The women's portion of the tournament will take place at the Wildflower Country Club in Temple.

Sophomore Molly Franks (77, 82) had the low score among the Lady Jaguars in Paris — she took eighth place in the individual standings.

Franks is a transfer from Western Texas College. Her home is in Sherman.

Host Mary Hardin-Baylor and Tyler Junior College were the top-two teams in last year's tournament.
