JACKSONVILLE —
The Jacksonville Fight'n Maiden soccer team has settled into a winning groove as of late.
In the team's last two district matches, the Jacksonville girls have turned back Diboll, 3-1, and defeated Palestine 3-1 in penalty kicks after things were tied up 0-0 after regulation play.
“Our passing game has been spot-on lately,”Jacksonville head coach Kiff Weimers said. “I think that that was the biggest thing that was lacking for us early on.”
In the win over Diboll last Friday at Tomato Bowl, Alayna Jeffcoat drove the ball into the net during the first half, with the two clubs being tied, 1-1, at intermission.
In the final half, Rachel Stirneman drilled two shots into the net in the final 15 minutes of play, which was more than enough to give the Maidens (5-10-1, 2-1 District 35) the win.
Then on Tuesday night in Palestine, the Maidens got penalty shot conversions from Stirneman, Jasmin Rodriquez and Callie Reagan to escape with the win.
Reagan also doubled up as goalkeeper for the Maidens, where she was credited with the win in net.
Jacksonville will be looking to extend its winning streak when the Lady Hornets from Lufkin Hudson trek into Tomato Bowl for a 6 p.m. match this evening.
The junior varsity team has the night off.
