WILLS POINT —
The Bullard High School tennis team put forth a strong effort at the recent Wills Point Tournament.
Highlighting performances included Meg Wages and Landon Beckham teaming up to to take first place in mixed doubles, along with a runner-up finish by the duo of Cameron Sanson and Hunter Wages in boy's doubles.
Wages & Beckham posted wins over Hartin & Cain (Athens), 8-2, Steiss & Craft (Richardson Pearce), 7-6, 6-4, Ward & Sanchez (West Mesquite), 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) and Chen & Skelton (Richardson Pearce), 7-6, 6-2.
Sanson and Wages opened play by defeating Seamon and Glasscock (Mabank), 8-2.
They then posted wins over Howell and Herrington (Van), 6-1, 6-0, and over Shetty and Fernandez (Richardson Pearce), 6-1, 6-3 before falling to another tandem from Richardson Pearce team in the finals, where the Bullard unit lost, 6-4, 6-7 (7-3), 10-5 in the super tie breaker for the third set.
In other action, Colton Mebane and Kelsey Long took second place in consolation play of mixed doubles.
McKenzie Fish advanced to the semi finals in girl's singles where she was defeated by Athens' Jessica Moore, 8-4.
In girl's doubles, Mallory McCoy and Madi Hodges earned a runner-up finish in consolation play.
McCoy and Hodges scored wins over opponents from Athens (8-2) and from West Mesquite (8-2) before dropping an 8-2 match in the finals to a pair from Wills Point.

Brook Hill used a three run sixth inning to get past Bryan Brazos Christian, 7-5, in the TAPPS 3A State Championship baseball game that took place in Waco Wednesday afternoon.
