Area Roundup: Rusk vs. Eustace = ground and pound special

JACKSONVILLE — Rusk Eagles (2-0) at Eustace Bulldogs (1-1)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Bulldog Stadium in Eustace

Coaches – Ted Patton, Rusk; Brian Herman, Eustace

Last Week — Rusk 35, Crockett 13; Eustace 26, Rice 23.

Next Week — Rusk at Athens; Eustace at Fort Worth Castleberry

Game Notes: Rusk hasn't opened the year 2-0 since 2004...The Eagles' win last week came despite four fumbles lost, something Patton said that his team will have to clean up in a hurry...The Bulldogs return just 8 starters from last year's 10-2 squad...Eustace is not predicted to make the playoffs this year...Fans of the run will want to attend this game which will match Rusk's split-back veer attack against the Bulldogs' slot-t...”Our defense will have to be in the right place because Eustace likes to run a lot of misdirection,” Patton said. “They do a great job in playing ball-control football.”...Tyler Folsom Eustace's leading rusher in 2011 (1,603 yds.) missed last week's game against Rice after being injured in Week 0...The 'Dogs racked up 509 yards rushing a week ago even without Folsom.

Bullard Panthers (2-0) at Diboll Lumberjacks (1-1)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Lumberjack Stadium in Diboll

Coaches — Shannon Wilson, Bullard; Shane Adair, Diboll

Last Week — Bullard 52, White Oak 6; Diboll 26, Corrigan-Camden 23

Next Week — Huntington at Bullard;  Diboll at Shepard

Game Notes: For the second-straight week the Bullard offense scored more than 50 points, despite the fact that four Panther quarterbacks were used in the game...Colton Mebane and Brentavian Henderson each had 56 yards on the ground to lead Bullard...Haden Bryant caught 8 passes for 150 yards and 3 TDs...Mebane went 11-of-19 for 223 through the air and pitched 3 TD darts...Henderson and Zack Holladay each had 10 tackles to pace the Panther defenders...Trevor Rumbelow added 7...Henderson, Rumbelow and Billy Tomlin each recovered a fumble in the White Oak game...The Bullard defense held White Oak to 159 total yards...Diboll is much improved this year and usually plays well at home...RB Carlos Teal is the go-to guy for the 'Jacks...He rushed for 73 yards in the season opening loss to Fairfield...'Jacks' defense will need to bring its “A' game for Diboll to actually have a chance at slowing down Bullard's potent offense.

Garrison Bulldogs (1-1) at Brook Hill Guard (1-0)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Herrington Stadium in Bullard

Coaches — Craig Barker, Garrison; Terry Pirtle, Brook Hill

Last Week — Garrison lost to Tenaha, 18-6; Brook Hill was idle.

Next Week — Garrison at San Augustine; Brook Hill at Longview Spring Hill

Game Notes — How Brook Hill responds after having a rare Week 1 open date could have a lot to do with the game's final outcome...Brook Hill's win this year came over Frankston (34-0), who is a District 10-2A-II rival of the Bulldogs...Garrison's win came in Week O (47-21 over Hemphill)...Barker is in his first year at Garrison after serving as an assistant coach at Henderson...The 'Dogs are averaging just 12 points a game offensively, something that will have to drastically increase for them to be able to pin an upset onto the Guard.

Quitman Bulldogs (0-2) at Troup Tigers (2-0)

7:30 p.m. Friday at Tiger Stadium in Troup

Coaches — Ronald Callahan, Quitman; Dennis Alexander, Troup

Last Week — Redwater 35, Quitman 14; Troup 40, West Rusk 0

Next Week — Mineola at Quitman; Troup at Arp

Game Notes — Troup is averaging right at 8 yards a carry as a team...The Bulldogs will have to figure out a way to slow down the Tigers' running game to have a chance...Troup raced out to a 27-0 lead after one period of play in last week’s victory over West Rusk...Seth Gibson scored two TDs for the Tigers including one covering 65 yards that came with 4:02 to play in the first half...Gibson led Troup in rushing with four carries for 108 yards..The Tiger defense held West Rusk to just 90 yards last week...On paper this one figures to go Troup's way in a big way, but if the Tigers are caught looking ahead to the rivalry game against Arp next week, the Bulldogs could be in a position to pull off the upset.
