ALTO —
The Tigers of Troup lifted the curtain on a brand new season Monday night by going out and thumping Alto 13-2, in a game that was reduced to five innings due to the Mercy Rule.
Mason Mallard led Troup (1-0) at the plate by going 2-2, collecting a pair of double while driving in two.
Low Robertson and Brant Palmer also had two hits for the Tigers, who will return to the diamond beginning on Thursday when they begin play in the Chapel Hill Tournament.
The tourney is scheduled to run through Saturday.
Also hitting safely on Monday was Seth Gibson, Luke Smith and Ty Howell.
Smith, the fourth of five Tiger hurlers that was called upon by head coach Tell Ross, picked up the win on the hill.
He worked two frames and allowed no hits while striking out two Yellowjacket batters.
Alto had a tough day at the dish, as Troup pitching limited the Yellowjackets to just one hit and one earned run in the game.
