JACKSONVILLE —
The Jacksonville Fight’n Maiden soccer team will open conference play at 7 p.m. Tuesday when the Lady Dragons of Nacogdoches are scheduled to visit the Tomato Bowl.
Junior varsity squads from the two rival schools will get the night started with a 5:30 p.m. match.
Jacksonville head coach Kiff Wiemers said that his team has been playing better lately, even though the Maidens lost their last-two matches coming into Friday’s test against Whitehouse (results not available as of press time.)
On the last day of January, the Maidens played No.3-ranked Texas High tough before eventually falling 3-0.
“Actually we were able to go toe-to-toe with them in the first half,” Jacksonville head coach, Kiff Wiemers, said. “I think that we gained a lot of confidence in that match and hopefully we can carry that forward.”
The Lady Tigers led 1-0 at the break.
“This was definitely our best 80 minutes of the year,” Wiemers said.
Last Friday, JHS visited Kilgore and dropped a 3-1 decision to the Lady Bulldogs.
Kelley Crosby booted in Jacksonville’s lone goal on an assist by Rachel Stirneman.
