JACKSONVILLE —
Jacksonville College dipped into the Texas UIL Class 5A pool for its eighth and final women's tennis signee with the Tuesday addition of Kaylee Hullett of Midlothian High School.
Hullett, toured the campus and met with Kenneth Michaud, Jacksonville College head tennis coach, Tuesday morning and she liked what she saw and the words spoken to her by Michaud, so she penned her name onto a National Letter of Intent.
“I'm really excited about continuing my tennis career at Jacksonville College,” Hullett said. “I wasn't sure that I wanted to keep playing tennis in college until I came here and found out more about the program.
“After I met with Coach Michaud I discovered that I was ready and I'm ready to get out on the court and compete.”
Michaud remarked that Hullett's 5-A experiences was one of the key factors that appealed to him most when evaluating her.
“First of all, Kaylee is a very strong player and with her having played at the 5-A level, the highest level, that will certainly help her at the collegiate level,” he said. “She could help us out immediately and play towards the top of the line up in singles.”
Hullett said that tennis is in her blood and that she has been playing daily for the past five years.
“I feel that I work hard at tennis, I don't give up easily, and when I get out on the tennis court I am there to win,” Hullett said.
As far as her strengths, Hullett mentioned her forehand and her serve as being the strong points of her game.
One element of her game that can't be overlooked is somewhat of a unique one.
“I have developed a talent, I guess you can say, for being able to know what my opponent is thinking, and by being able to do that it gives me the advantage,” Hullett said.
Hullett was a four-year letter winner for Midlothian tennis.
As a freshman she was votes as District Newcomer of the Year.
Her junior season she was named as the team Most Valuable Player, while winning 5-5A All-District in doubles.
This past season Hullett came away with “Miss Midlothian High School Tennis” lauds as well as being voted the player with the “Most Team Spirit”.
Hullett was a 5-5A All-District (Second Team) recipient in singles this past season.
Hullett said the highlight of her high school career was being voted as the team MVP in 2011 and finishing third at district in mixed doubles.
Hullett was accompanied by her grandfather, Don Hullett, at her signing ceremony.
Jacksonville College will be sponsor tennis (women’s and men’s) for the first time in school history, beginning this fall.
